Teamwork

One of my most favourite parts about working in Kindergarten is getting the opportunity to work in partnership with another talented educator. As an occasional teacher, the ECEs that I worked with was easily the most useful resources I had at my disposal and I was always so happy that they were there.

In my first LTO position, I was absolutely blessed to work alongside Marnie King – one of the hardest working educators I have ever met. Our time together was a true partnership, we talked about everything we did in the classroom, we planned together, and we split up all duties throughout the day.

Each week, one of us would teach literacy, while the other one taught math. The next week, we would switch giving us both the opportunity to teach both subjects. Both of us would also run small group activities during center time. Whoever was teaching math that week would run the literacy small group and vice versa. We also split up bus/gate duty at the end of the day, so we did both jobs all the time. Every email that we sent out was signed with both our names.

During my second LTO position, I was excited to work alongside Yelena Demeter – an ECE who has a clear passion for working with children and who was always willing to help with whatever needed to be done. Both Yelena and I were new educators for the students at the time, though since she had been there for 3 weeks before I arrived, she possessed invaluable information about the students and the classroom that I would not have been successful without. She was so supportive of me as an educator and we were able to work out a system that made both of us happy and fulfilled in our work.
