My Classroom

This was my classroom – my very first! And I am so incredibly proud of the space we created. Although this was taken before the first day of school, the general outline of the space remained the same over the course of the year. As always, personality was added to the space once we had our students inside of it, but the structure remained.

Because we were still in the midst of COVID restrictions at the beginning, we were not allowed a central carpet which meant that each child needed to have a seat where they could see the smart board at the front. We arranged the tables in a U shape to accomplish just that. Each child’s spot was marked with their name, and eventually their picture.

We chose our main source of lighting to be several well-placed lamps and twinkle lights because, with 30 students in the space, we knew finding a sense of calm would be important. As you can see, this form of lighting was essential in creating that.
