Sensory Play

It was so much fun to watch our students explore our sensory bins – we were blessed to be able to have a stationary water table and a spot for a large sensory bin all of the time, and we made sure to use them well. Here are a few things that we did with them:

One of the things we did most often was use the same sensory base with different additions to create a new experience. Here is an example of this that we did with multicolored beans:

Adding wood pieces and insects
An I Spy challenge
Sorting the beans by colour, size or type

At my second LTO, while we were able to use the water table, we did not have enough room for a sensory bin, and we were rather low on supplies for it. Here are some of the things I did to create a similar experience:

A garden bin with green rice and loose parts
Digging for dinosaur bones

A little cornstarch, some food colouring, water and floating loose parts created lots of fun!
Ice exploration! How can you get the rocks out of the ice cubes?

Working at the car wash – we lost the plug to our water table, so we used buckets instead!
